Your Day’s Adventure
Starting early at our Blackheath office, we’ll prepare your wetsuits, lunch, and safety equipment before a scenic 1.5-hour drive to the Newnes Plateau. After a short hike, you’ll arrive at Twister Canyon, ready to jump into nature’s water park!
Twister Canyon
Our day kicks off with jumps, slides, scrambles, and creek walking through this playful canyon, immersing you in beautiful rock formations and refreshing pools. When we reach the end of Twister, we’ll follow a dry creek bed through minor scrambles and climbs to access our second canyon: Rocky Creek.
Rocky Creek Canyon
We’ll recharge here with a quick break while we take in the already impressive sites of Rocky Creek – tumbling water and awe-inspiring canyon formations. We’ll then navigate narrow corridors, enjoy thrilling swims, and take in the epic canyon walls of this unforgettable place.
Reversing Through the Canyon
After exploring Rocky Creek, we’ll retrace our steps, giving you a second chance to savour this stunning environment. At the top, we’ll enjoy a well-deserved lunch, pack up our gear, and commence the one-hour hike back to the carpark.
Return Journey
After our canyon exploration, we’ll drive back to the Blackheath office, where your guide will wrap up the day and provide you with recommendations for future adventures.
What’s in a name?
Twister was named by “Wollemi Pine” Dave Noble because of the twisting nature of the canyon. It has been incorrectly known as Sheep Dip canyon, perpetuated by that name being used in Rick Jamieson’s guidebook.
Sheep Dip canyon is upper Rocky Creek, but there was a misunderstanding by “Sydney University Bushwalkers” Dave Noble and “Wollemi Pine” Dave Noble when discussing Sheep Dip canyon. “Wollemi Pine” Dave Noble made the first recorded descent of Twister, but presumed it was the Sheep Dip canyon that “SUBW” Dave Noble had spoken about.
