Est. 1984

The Blue Mountains Climbing School (BMCS) was one of the earliest adventure companies in the Blue Mountains and Australia. It was established in 1984 by Andrew Penney, a passionate climber, guidebook author and prolific first ascensionist.

BMCS was originally a training and touring company specialising in climbing and abseiling. As more people came looking for adventure, the activities expanded to include corporate training, bushwalking, mountain biking, caving, and canyoning.

Owned and Operated by Local Guides

In 2013 a group of Blue Mountains guides decided that it was time to return to the Blue Mountains Climbing School roots: to provide Australian climbers with advanced skills taught by a dedicated climbing instruction team.

And here we are.

Owned and operated by local guides. Always.

  • This is a massive and varied area; most people climb on five percent of the cliffs and rarely reach the sky.  If you can walk a few steps further you can climb in some long multi-pitch areas and get among the clouds, if you can place a bit of gear you can do much more again -Mike Law
  •  Adventure is taking on the unknown where the outcomes aren’t guaranteed. That’s where you learn all sorts of different, unexpected things. -Lincoln Hall
  • Climbing has steered my life in directions I couldn’t have foreseen and has motivated me to achieve some things that I never thought were possible for me. Climbing has given me a reason to travel and has taken me to many extraordinary places that I would not have visited otherwise. Climbing is my anchor and yet my freedom. -Monique Forestier

Community

Blue Mountains Climbing School is proud to support the NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) and Crag Care.

At over 100 years old, the RFS is the world’s largest fire service. The RFS is a volunteer organisation with over 70,000 members working to secure our homes and communities when fire strikes.

Crag Care is a group of community-minded climbers working to maintain access to the climbing areas we love.  They invite climbers to participate in track care and bush rehabilitation projects at popular climbing areas,  providing tools, expert advice and delicious meals!
