The Art of Traditional Climbing

Want to get away from the queues and chaos of sport climbing?  Traditional (trad) climbing involves placing removable protective equipment in the rock, allowing you to venture into uncharted territory. This course covers the essential knowledge and skills required to place trad gear and tackle all the extra considerations that come with the territory

Pre-requisites

Skills in line with the completion of:

3 Days $825 per person incl GST

This course will enable you to:

  •   Access, lead and belay traditional climbs
  •   Confidently place, assess and remove trad gear
  •   Assess and utilise natural features like threads, bollards and chocks
  •   Build multi-point anchors using natural and removable gear, ropes, slings and cordelettes
  •   Recognise specific trad climbing hazards and address them

Course Outline

What’s provided:

  • Free download of full course notes
  • Pre-course chat with your instructor
  • All personal climbing equipment*
  • Climbing hardware (ropes, draws, cams, wires, hexes and lots more)
  • Course completion certificate (by request)

What you need:

  • Transport to the crag. Locations vary, but most courses are within a 20 minute drive from Blackheath, Blue Mountains. Transport options are available on request
  • Lunch (unless specifically listed)

* We encourage you to bring your own climbing shoes, harness and any other climbing equipment you have.  If you don’t have anything, no worries, we can fit you out from scratch.
