“My first experience climbing was on one of the classics in the mountains: Sweet Dreams. That was 25 years ago, and my passion for climbing adventures is still very much alive!”
Hi, I’m Richard. My introduction to the outdoor climbing scene started when a schoolmate asked if I wanted to climb outside. We jumped onto the iconic Sweet Dreams route with my climbing partner leading, and me tentatively seconding. After that, I was hooked—spending as much time on ropes as I could afford.
My love for the outdoors didn’t stop at rock climbing. Over the years, I’ve expanded my horizons above and below ground, taking on bigger challenges across the globe. My worldwide adventures include big wall climbing, mountaineering, multi-day ski-touring, as well as canyoning and caving.
In 2014, I made the leap from my day job as a social worker to dedicate myself entirely to guiding and Outdoor Education.
My true passion lies in providing a safe, welcoming space for people to engage with the natural world. I am driven by helping others discover their potential, become inspired by the outdoors, and gain a deeper education about the environment around them.
As a Qualified Trainer and Assessor, I have the privilege of educating the next generation of guides while still doing the job I love. I’ve taught and guided in a variety of settings including mountaineering courses in the Snowy Mountains, safe trip planning with bush navigation in the Australian Bush, facilitating outdoor rock climbing, transitions for indoor climbers and teaching advanced rope skills like multi-pitch techniques and self-rescue.
