Not raised in an outdoorsy family, Caro discovered her inner Famous Five adventure gland in her early twenties when she joined the Sydney Bush Walkers Club and her life changed forever. Her new tribe introduced her to the possibilities and adventures that were available in the great Aussie bush, especially the ones that involved exploration, discovery and a good dose of, ‘I wonder where that goes?’ Fast becoming a leader (with something of a reputation for exploratory off-track trips with scrub!) she remembered her childhood obsession with maps and the imagined lands that they would take her to.
She joined SES Bush Search and Rescue in 2003 with a desire to put her wilderness and remote area skills and experience to good use in the community. It was this volunteer work, along with her background as a TV producer, that inspired her to start LotsaFreshAir.com in 2012 to encourage people to get into hiking and the outdoors, by providing inspiring imagery and stories, mixed with practical tips and how-to’s.
Passionate about educating hikers and outdoor enthusiasts about how to look after themselves, each other and the environment, she actively promotes awareness and understanding of navigation and Minimal Impact bushwalking principles to her online community of over 60,000.
She holds a Cert IV in Public Safety (SES Leadership) and is a Search Commander with NSW SES Bush Search and Rescue.
She’s a regular contributor to Great Walks Magazine and Travel Play Live Magazine – Australia’s first outdoor adventure magazine for women – as well as writing for Wild, Bushwalking Australia and Jetstar Inflight magazines.
A regular guest on ABC Radio NSW 702 with Simon Marnie and a popular speaker at outdoor conferences and events, she’s the Macpac brand ambassador and navigation nerd with an Aeropress in her pack.
For fun, she lays out topos on her lounge room floor and armed with a piece of string and a glass of red, she plans her future adventures.
