A Remote Adventure with Stunning Vistas

Nestled on the eastern cliffs of the Grose Valley, Tom Thumb is a hidden gem that combines the excitement of multi-pitch climbing with the tranquility of a remote setting. Featuring a blend of bolts and traditional protection, this climb is ideal for those looking to expand their skills in a stunning natural environment.

Your Day’s Journey

We’ll start at our Blackheath office to organise gear, pack your lunch, and discuss the day’s plan. A 30-minute scenic drive along the Mt Hay Range brings us to the car park, where the adventure begins with a one-hour hike along the ridge offering sweeping views of the Grose Valley.

Abseiling into the Grose Valley

The ‘multi-pitch’ journey downward consists of three 50 meter abseils, each showcasing the dramatic cliffs and expansive vistas of the valley. This descent sets the stage for the climb to come, offering a unique perspective of the terrain before we begin our ascent.

Climbing Tom Thumb

Starting 50 metres above the valley floor, the climb features six pitches of ‘mixed climbing’, blending bolts with traditional gear placements. As we ascend, the views grow more spectacular, and the sense of adventure intensifies. Each pitch will challenge and reward, making the final summit a truly satisfying achievement.

Topping Out in the Grose Valley

Reaching the top of the cliff is an exhilarating moment, offering panoramic views and a profound sense of accomplishment. The hike back to the car is the perfect time to savor the experience, reflecting on the day’s challenges and rewards.
