Picking your way through the classic long, exposed trad lines, bullet hard volcanic rock, with view that make it clear you are miles from anywhere will more than make up for the drive, the walk in, and the remote camping. Close to perfect!The longer than usual walk-ins are a small price to pay to experience some of the loveliest climbing the mountains have to offer, to be surrounded by as much rock as the mind can absorb, and to retire to camp by your car with easy access to the river.
The ‘Bungles contain some of the most remote and adventurous climbing on the mainland of Australia. Huge volcanic outcrops, situated well above the treeline, make for stunning trad lines and jaw dropping exposure.
With little in the way of guidebooks and ambiguous information online the route finding can be as challenging as topping out on a huge volcanic spire is rewarding. The climbing and location need to be experienced to be believed!
