Start your climbing journey by learning the foundations of safe indoor leading, belaying and much more at SICG Villawood


  • This course focuses on laying a foundation of technical rope skills so you don’t have to crank or climb a certain grade, that said, you will enjoy your course a lot more if you are already feeling comfortable moving up and down the wall on a top rope.
  • Personal Gear: We have found that most people will have their own harness, chalk bag and climbing shoes before starting to lead, and we assume that you will bring these for the course. If for some reason you would like to use BMCS gear, no problem, just let us know your harness and shoe size before the day of the course!
  • BMCS will provide all lead gear like ropes and belay devices, although we are also happy for you to use your own (after a brief safety check) if you would like to become familiar with it during the course.

2 nights, 3 hours each $260 per person incl GST Min 4 people

This course is split over two nights one week apart (to help you absorb lots of new information) and aims to lay some foundation skills. These will help you with your short term climbing goals, as well as setting you up for success in the long term.

  • Climbing Hardware (Carabiners and Belay Devices)
  • Leading Techniques (Clipping, Falling)
  • Belay Techniques (Spotting, Catching a Fall, Lowering)
  • Climbing Calls
  • Troubleshooting

What you need:

  • A willingness to push yourself (within reason)
  • Sense of humour

* We encourage you to bring your own climbing shoes, harness and any other climbing equipment you have.  If you don’t have anything, no worries, we can fit you out from scratch, just let us know so we can bring it to the gym.
